In Uganda a disabled person is socially seen as some one who is socially un able to participate fully in community activities and as it is this perspective of disability arises from a mismatch between the disabled person and the environment (both physical and social). the environment in which the disabled people live in does not favor them to able identify themselves with other able people and hence creating disparities ,and handicaps.
From the medical perspective most people view disabled people as having born with deformities and this is probably genetical and the society has nothing to about it since no medication is expected to change a persons bodily stature. In most cases disabled people are viewed as unable to do what able people can do and highly discriminated, not respected and devalued. In order to change this perspective this perspective, the way to address disability is to change the environment and society, rather than change people with disabilities. Negative stereotypes, discrimination, and oppression serve as barriers to environmental change and relook into inclusive opportunities and health services.
