In Ethiopia, all three models of disability (Moral, Medical, and Social) can be observed in various aspects of rehabilitation services and societal attitudes. While the Medical Model is prevalent in formal health care and rehabilitation services, the Social Model is gaining traction through government policies and NGO initiatives. The Moral Model, though less dominant, still influences cultural beliefs and practices in some communities. Efforts to integrate the Social Model more fully continue, aiming to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for people with disabilities in Ethiopia.
The Ethiopian government has made efforts to adopt policies that align with the Social Model, such as the National Plan of Action for Persons with Disabilities (2012-2021). These policies aim to promote equal opportunities, accessibility, and social inclusion for people with disabilities.
